Earth Day, Week 1

Last weeks Plants week seemed like the perfect segue into and Earth Day week, even if we were going to be a week early. Munchkin had the week off from pre-school, so I planned enough things to fill all our morning while Little Sister napped – well… we did other things and didn’t get through half of it, so I’ll be splitting this theme into two weeks, and actually hitting Earth Day at the right time. Perfect!

Earth Day 100 Chart

We haven’t tried anything like this before. Munchkin doesn’t know all her numbers yet, but we’ve worked with number up to 40, and she is just absorbing words (and so probably numbers) all over the place. We got a good third of the way through together, and she did probably another third by herself on and off through the week. I don’t think she really understands that she will be making a picture by coloring the numbers, so if we finish it together, that might provide more drive for next time. Do-A-Dot Tree with Pom-Poms

This didn’t even get looked at. Munchkin was so not interested. Maybe it was the tweezers? Little Sister did get into the pom poms though… Printable is from Gift of Curiosity.

Earth Day Patterning

This printable is from 3Dinosaurs Earth Day Learning Pack. Munchkin is starting to get the hang of these. I also left the matching squares for her to cut out – she loves using scissors, so I thought that would entice her. I was a bit surprised when we just did one of these together and she was all done, but I was right – a day or two later I discovered that she’d completed the sheet by herself.

10-40 Bingo

I found a great Bingo Card generator! Munchkin has been so into games, and I want her to work on her numbers beyond 20. I was able to enter custom numbers, 10-40. We used the tiles from our new hundred board, and took turns pulling them out of the bag. As much as possible, Munchkin read out the numbers when it was her turn, and then we searched our cards together. Munchkin made Grandma play with her too.

Papier-Mache Earth

I saw this pin, and was lamenting that we didn’t any balloons. We’ve never papier-mache’d before, and I’m all for new experiences. I then realized that we did have two balloons around from a birthday party – so asked Munchkin if we could use one for a project. I planned that we would do a little bit each day, for 4 or 5 days in the week…but we were just too busy! We got two coats of scrap paper on the balloon, and will have to add the tissue paper next week. It was good messy fun!

We also did some fingerpainting – here are the art walls:
