Adventures in Tot Schooling

Fall Art Project

As mentioned, I’ve been decluttering. We have a canvas picture that used to hang on our walls in previous homes, but has never hung in this house because it’s the wrong blue for the walls. It’s just been sitting in a closet. When I pulled it out, the hubs suggested that Munchkin might paint on it. When I saw this on Pinterest, I knew just what to do!

First, I coated it in a couple of passes of white paint, just so that the original image would show through a bit less, then used masking tape to make a tree design.

The next day we hung out in the back garden. Myself, Munchkin, and Hubs all contributed to painting. We used a couple of sponge dots, and a couple of paint brushes to dab on paint. We kept going back and forth to it while hanging out, and eventually got the whole canvas covered.

After drying overnight, I presented a tray of Fall coloured sequins, and some glue. Throughout the day Munchkin and I dabbed on a bit of glue and added a few sparkles. When she went to bed, I covered the whole thing in a coat of Modge Podge, just because I thought it would help.

I love the way it turned out, and that we all had a hand in it (Little Sis provided moral support!) I actually don’t mind that the original image shows through a little – it was one of the first things Hubs and I purchased together – and I love the way it makes the bottom of the picture darker than the top. I think it really helps to complete our tray area.
